8 THINGS YOU DON’T KNOW ABOUT TONY STARK (IRON MAN)

You’re probably a movie freak and a die-hard lover of Marvel Studios and their productions, but I’d bet there’re still so many things you don’t really know about Tony Stark whom you know by his action figure name; Iron Man.

Avengers: Infinity wars made us love Iron Man the more. His charisma, metaphoric attitude as well as ability to come up with a joke in the face of danger was second to none, not to mention his love for tech and characteristic display. In one word; he was sensational.

Unfortunately for his fans, Avengers: End game ended on a very appalling note especially for Iron man fans as it proved to be the end of not just the great intractable Thanos but also for Tony Stark and maybe for the Iron Man we once loved.

  1. WHAT IS IRON MAN’S REAL NAME?

Every single Marvel Universe lover should definitely know Iron man and Tony Stark but most don’t know who he is in the real world. Iron man’s real name is Robert Downey Jr., he was born on the 4th of April, 1965 in Manhattan, New York, United States of America.

  1. HE IS ONE OF THE RICHEST HOLLYWOOD ACTORS IN THE WORLD

Robert Downey Jr. happens to be stinking rich. He earned himself a reasonable top spot in the newly released Forbes and Celebrity Net Worth list of the richest actors in the world.

He has a net worth of $300 million which earned him the number 33 spot on the list just below the American actor, model and rapper; Mark Wahlberg but well above Leonardo DiCaprio on the 34th spot.

  1. TONY STARK IS ONE OF THE WORLD’S OLDEST SUPEHERO ACT

As we all know superhero movies are usually donned by younger Actors and Actress majorly due to the fact that it is set span for a longer period of time. Notable young superheroes are Spider Man (Peter Parker), Flash (Barry Allen), Chris Evans (Captain America) and Chris Hemsworth (Thor).

Robert Downey Jr. was born 4th April, 1965 which means he’s currently in his mid-50s, if my calculations are right, then he is currently 55 years old. That’s a ridiculously awful age for a superhero, which makes you wonder how exactly he is able to pull those stunts at such an old age.

  1. ROBERT DOWNEY JR. IS/WAS A DRUG ADDICT

This is the part of Iron Man no one want’s to know or talk about. Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) tried really hard to keep this part of Tony Stark hidden and buried forever, but as the adage says “nothing is hidden under the sun”.

Robert Downey Jr. version of Iron man was a total and complete alcoholic. He can never stay up to an hour or two without a bottle or glass of alcohol. His alcoholic addiction negatively affected the early years of his career, depriving him of the opportunity to land a super role.

Thanks to Mel Gibson who single handedly paid his insurance bond for “The Singing Detective” to restart his career, and Stan Lee Who had a rather surprising strong faith in him as the best option for Iron Man. Because without the both of them, I don’t see how he was going to win that role ahead of Tom Cruise and Nicolas Cage.

  1. HIGHEST PAID ACTOR IN THE WORLD

Between 2016 and 2017, Robert Downey Jr. earned approximately $50 million, in 2018 he increased those figures to $80 million and in 2019 he earned $65 million making him one of the highest paid actors in the world.

Those are crazy figures for someone whose career was on the brink of collapse as result of alcoholic addiction. Today he boasts a net worth of 300 million dollars.

  1. SUIT COMPANIONSHIP

As the years roll by, upgrades are imminent and bound to happen. In the later years of Iron man, Tony Stark created a suit called the extremist armor. The extremist armor is stored inside his body and only surface when he actually needs it (in a battle or to show off). So basically the suit wears him and he wears the suit, quite funny right?

It’s a 50/50 kind of relationship. Biology would call it a symbiotic relationship. This again shows what a genius Tony can be.

  1. UNITED STATES SECRETARY OF DEFENSE

There was a time the United States of America were trying to build Iron Man’s tech and suit but nearly blew up Washington DC in the process. Tony Stark was later appointed as the United States Secretary of Defense by the America President.

The appointment yielded favorable results, but the project is yet to see a completion. As unbelievable as this may sound, the Marvel’s Iron Man’s suit costs only 100 million dollars.

  1. FORBES LIST OF FICTIONAL CHARACTERS

Just in case you had no idea, Forbes magazine do release a list of the richest fictional characters every year, they call it the “Forbes Fictional 15”. The list covers the richest movie acts in Hollywood based on their assets in the movie.

The most recent released list shows that Tony Stark is number four (4) on the list with a net worth of $8.8 Billon above DC Comics’ Bruce Wayne (Bat Man). The first on the list is the immortal Vampire of Twilight; Carlisle Cullen with a net worth of $34.5 Billion.
